Leaky Gut Syndrome and Hair Loss: The Truth About It

The words “leaky gut” may sound scary. It is a scary symptom, yet so common. As the name suggests, your gut leaks. The intestinal wall is permeable enough to let nutrients of food get absorbed in the body; but when its permeability increases, food particles can also pass into the blood stream.

This is a grave situation, say doctors researching on this syndrome. It can cause inflammation in the body, as the immune system becomes responsive. It starts attacking body’s own cells.

Four things can happen when you have a leaky gut:

1.    Autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis

2.    Hair loss due to inflammation and poor absorption of nutrients

3.    Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other stomach troubles

4.    Malnutrition due to poor nutrient absorption and digestion

Leaky gutsyndrome and hair loss are linked. The severity of your hair loss shows how pronounced your leaky gut is.

However, not every case of hair loss is due to leaky gut; but a surprising number of them are, inform experts.

Many people suffering from hair loss are found to be malnourished. Doctors prescribe them nutritional supplements. However, many doctors do not go into the root of the problem. Why did malnourishment happen? It might be a leaky gut!

Similarly, many people suffer from IBS and other stomach troubles. Doctors may prescribe them appropriate treatment to appease the symptoms. Here too, a leaky gut might be the root cause of the stomach problems.

Leaky gut is something many doctors fail to recognize. Some even don’t believe such a syndrome exists!

However, recent research shows that one of the reasons for hair fall in female is a leaky gut.

If you doubt your hair loss or nutritional deficiency or stomach trouble is due to leaky gut, change your diet. Eat more probiotics, yogurt, fermented foods, and anti-inflammatory foods for a month. If your hair loss or other health problem subsides, your doubt was right.
